Mt Baker, Halloween Powder

October 31, 2004

A whole gaggle of people ended up at the upper parking lot of Mt. Baker Ski Area. We harvested freshiez on the north side of Table Mountain and it was good.

The slope we lapped. First powder of the year. Hummel chasing the wind. Phil phinds phairly phantastic snow phlurries.

More Hummel. Skinners going for another lap on the phantastic snow. Jeromy finds his happy place.

Jason cuts off a slide in the wind loaded gully. Never follow a Hummel.

Mt. Rainier, November Corn

November 7, 2004

Jim, Brian, and I went to Paradise to look for snow. We found it all right, all the way down to the parking lot. We met up with a large selection of the Turns All Year posse, and we lapped lots of corn beneath McClure Rock. We probably should have gone a bit higher onto the Muir Snowfield, but we still had a fun, relaxed day of snowsliding.

Jibber Jim Jumps a 'rail'. Friggin' knuckledraggers. Approaching. I liked the light. Tatoosh in the background as assorted funhogs approach the November corn.

Put a snowboarder on skis and sit back to watch. Stefan rips it. Erik airs the jump, and lands on his butt. Stefan, you're on skis now. Bring your feet together.

Brian has to show Erik how it's done right. But he didn't stick it, either. I think that's Jerry White. The slope was getting somewhat moguled out by now. More Tatoosh, now on the way out.

Mt. Rainier, November Ice

November 13, 2004

Saturday night. I've spent the day working in the lab, and am tired. But I have to ski tomorrow, so I call Dave.

"Dave. Paul here. Let's go skiing tomorrow. Give me a call."

I call Jim, leave the same message. Five minutes later the phone rings. Jim:

"What time do you want me to pick you up?"

The next morning we pick Brian up and drive to Paradise, all the while assuring each other that the weather is going to suck. It's drizzling in the lot. Kam Leang and posse are there. We head up the trail hoping that the weather will get better rather than worse. It did. We turned around at between 8500 and 9000 feet in a whiteout. The snow wasn't bad, but a bit firm. Here's to more fresh soon.

Kam and Allyson and someone else hike to McClure Rock The othered opted for the slopes of last weekend. Brian and Jim go up. Jim says: "Ve go UP. Zere is goot snow up zere!"

Brian thinks not, and carves the whiteout instead. Jim finds the edge control of hardboots beneficial on the hardsnow. Brian on the same steep slope from last weekend. Gravelly hard snow makes it sportier.
Lots of peole coming out of Edith Creek Basin. The Tatoosh are photogenic. Jim, that sign over there says that the grey jays are vicious and will peck your hands bloody.
